On travel.
Early on and with modest resources, my mother taught her daughters the value of a "discovery-cation" - choreographed around an inspiring hotel stay and the charm of its immediate surroundings. Serene and exploratory by design, these petite vacations punctuated the art of breathing in the details: the curve of an ancient armchair, the dignity of a neighborhood garden, the choreography of a bustling intersection.
It is a ritual that informs my approach to travel today: Fixing a lens on an inviting hotel, instinctively journeying outward at an organic pace, and inviting the unexpected in with senses engaged. |
On criticism.
To speak the language of the ephemera, an unspoken agreement to break wide open without falling apart.
From ancient stages to modern exhibitions, textures and tones are layered in the pursuit of I view arts criticism as a subtle layering of textures and tone in the pursuit of discovering a primordial connection between audience, artist, and emotion. |
On provisions.
The nostalgia of butter-laced noodles, the seduction of a peppery cab franc. Food in its various forms is an unmistakable vessel for connection - nourishment and comfort at its most fundamental.
When the pandemic first forced restaurants to shutter - and catching up with friends over an elaborate meal seemed like a ritual from another era - artisans, chefs, and farmers were among the first to rise to the occasion, dreaming up new and inventive ways to unify through the humble act of gathering around a table. Much more than food writing, these are stories of perseverance and community. |
